Portal into the Convergence

Now you can warp around the Convergence with all-new custom Portals.

With the release of Cyber City on April 2nd, we’re introducing an all-new type of cosmetic, one that’s at the core of how every Tactician travels through the Convergence: Portals.

Portals are nothing new to the world of TFT. They’re the magic that allows our favorite Featherknight, or other Tacticians, to travel between sets, other dimensions, and arenas to play their favorite game (that’s TFT btw) in the Convergence. What is new is the ability to customize them. Similar to Booms, Arenas, and Tacticians, you’ll be able to select a Portal in the game lobby. You’ll start out with the default Portal that you’ve been using for the past (checks match history) however long you’ve been playing.

To unlock a new Portal, you’ll have to click over to the Rotating Shop, where you’ll find them in the Mythic section. There will also be one, Enter the Cyberspace, in the Pass+ for Cyber City’s release!

There are two distinct tiers of Portals. The first tier, Standard, will be our base tier, priced at 1 Mythic Medallion. We’ll be releasing these in batches, with the first batch containing the following four Portals: Event Horizon, Honey Hive Hatch, Splash Party, and Eldritch Eye.

Next, there are Legendary Portals, available for 3 Mythic Medallions. These will be visually more exciting, and they’ll often (but not always) coincide with thematically resonant moments, like a set release or the release of a fan favorite Chibi. Let’s check out the Legendary Portals coming with our release patch on April 2nd—Janna’s Fantastic Forecast will surely blow you away…

And we’ve got another Portal, PROJECT: Chain Vortex, to match your PROJECT: Vayne Unbound or PROJECT: Edgefall arena…or both.

How do Portals impact your game? In short, Portals are purely cosmetic, they won’t change or provide any gameplay information that can be used for or against your benefit. You’ll see your own Portal during both the planning phase and when teleporting to others' Arenas. However, other players who are scouting or being invaded by someone else will see the default Portal during the planning stage. After the planning stage, when someone else is actively traveling to your Arena, you’ll see their selected Portal.  Ensuring everyone in the lobby sees default Portals before the round starts prevents any additional information from being shared during Scouting phases. As we add more Portals to TFT, we wanted to prevent situations where everyone in the lobby has a different Portal, making it possible to track exactly who your next opponent is a little too easily. The same rules apply to Double-Up as well!

With the addition of Portals, we’re also taking the time to improve the way you equip and favorite cosmetics. Starting with the release of Cyber City, you’ll be able to favorite up to 30 items per category, and you’ll be able to randomize amongst your favorites. Oh, you’ll also be able to spam the random button faster in pursuit of those R.N.Genius loadouts.

Just like our other cosmetics, we’ll be releasing more Portals over time, and we’ll be looking to your feedback on what you want more of in the future. As for now be sure to check out these other portals (hyperlinks) to our Gameplay Overview, and Into the Arcane Learnings piece!
