Set 8.5 Oceania TFT Esports!
With Set 8 and the Asian Cup concluded, we're preparing to begin the competition for Set 8.5 which will determine who will go on to represent our region at the East Asia Finals as well as the Monsters Attack! Championship.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback on our competitive format for Set 8. The changes we’re making to Set 8.5’s format are informed by your feedback with the following outcomes in mind:
- Increasing the importance of ladder play by rewarding the top performers with an advantage in the qualification tournaments throughout the set and more opportunities to qualify. By integrating the Snapshot ladder with Open qualifiers, this assures that the Snapshots will be relevant even as the weeks go on so that players are encouraged to keep playing.
- Ensuring the fairness and competitive integrity of each tournament stage with performance based lobby seeding wherever possible and only allowing players who are yet to qualify for the East Asian Finals or Underground Cup to play in the qualification tournaments.
- Making performance in earlier rounds more relevant to the outcomes of later rounds through fewer instances of point resets and changing tiebreaker logic.
- Increasing the level of play and ensuring the very best players are being sent to represent OCE in international competition by introducing a Last Chance Qualifier for the best performing ladder and tournament players who are yet to qualify for the Regional Cup.
- Ensuring no tournament is played within less than a week after a patch, utilizing the Tournament Realm when needed.
Ladder Snapshots
Ladder snapshots will be continuing in Set 8.5. There will be a total of 5 ladder snapshots awarding points to the top 20 players on the TFT ranked ladder at the following times:
28th March - 11:59:59 pm AEDT
4th April - 11:59:59 pm AEST
11th April - 11:59:59 pm AEST
18th April - 11:59:59 pm AEST
25th April - 11:59:59 pm AEST
After the final snapshot is taken, the 1st and 2nd placed players will automatically qualify for the East Asia Finals, while the 3rd to 6th placed players on the ladder will qualify for the Underground Cup. Spots will be passed down to players that have not already qualified if a qualified player is ranked in one of the 3rd-6th places.
Tournament Schedule
Open Qualifiers
Kayle Open Qualifier
Dates: 31st March - 2nd April
Patch: 13.6 (Patch date: March 22nd)
Samira Open Qualifier
Dates: 14th - 16th April
Patch: 13.7 (Patch date: 5th April)
Any player who has not already qualified for the East Asia Finals or Underground Cup are eligible to play in the Open Qualifiers (OQ), meaning that if you qualify for the Underground Cup through the Kayle OQ, you’ll be unable to play in the Samira OQ.
The top 8 players from the ladder snapshot at the time of either OQ will be automatically seeded into Day 2 of the event, so will not be playing in Day 1.
Each OQ will run for 3 days with the top 56 players from the open stage on Day 1 joining the top 8 players from the ladder snapshot on Day 2. Day 2 and 3 will consist of two Rounds each, with the top 50% of players moving on from each round until there are only 4 players remaining by the end of the final Round on Day 3 who will qualify for the Underground Cup. Lobbies will be regularly reseeded on Day 2 and 3 based on players’ current point scores.
Last Chance Qualifier
Date: 29th April
Patch: 13.8 (Patch date: 19th April)
The Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) is, as the name suggests, the final chance for the best performing non-qualified players to qualify for the Underground Cup. Those who placed 5th to 8th from both OQs and the 8 highest placed non-qualified players from the ladder snapshots will be invited to participate in the LCQ.
They’ll play two Rounds consisting of 4 and 3 games respectively, with half the players being eliminated after Round 1. Lobbies will be seeded during Round 1 based on performance in the OQs or on the ladder snapshot, and then based on players’ current scores in the round.
The top 4 players at the end of Round 2 will qualify for the Underground Cup.
Underground Cup
Dates: 6th - 7th May
Patch: 13.8 (Played on Tournament Realm)
The Underground Cup is formatted similarly to the previous Spellslinger Cup. Day 1 will see the top 4 players from both OQs, the top 4 players from the LCQ, and the 3rd - 6th placed ladder snapshot players play 6 games, with lobbies being reseeded every 2 games based on players’ current scores. Then the top 8 players will proceed to Day 2, playing another 6 games to determine the final 4 players who will represent Oceania at the East Asia Finals.
East Asia Finals
Dates: 12th - 14th May
As the two top-placing players from OCE who competed in the Asian Cup, Kahdei and oubo are automatically qualified for the East Asia Finals. Joining them will be the top 2 players from the ladder snapshots and the top 4 players from the Underground Cup with a total of 8 players from OCE competing for one of 2 guaranteed spots in the Monsters Attack! Championship.
The 3rd place OCE player (out of the 8) will qualify for the Eastern LCQ. If they win the Eastern LCQ, they will also qualify for the Monsters Attack! Championship.
