TFT Esports Competitive Updates - Magic n’ Mayhem
As we usher in the newest Set, Magic n’ Mayhem, we also want to take a moment to introduce some updates to the competitive formats across pan-regional and global events.
Pan-Regional Competition
Starting with the pan-regional circuits, since we introduced this new structure earlier this year, we’ve learned a lot from operating the events and listening to player feedback. The biggest points of concern have been the number of days a player must be available in each set to compete in the TFT Esports ecosystem as well as the match quality at the Tactician Trials.
Moving into Set 12, Tactician Trials will move from 3-day to 2-day competitions and will be capped at a maximum of 256 players (actual size varies by Pan-Region). We also want TFT Esports to match the experience of playing TFT in-game, where placing Top 4 (Top 50%) is celebrated and viewed as winning. To get closer to this, we will be removing 75% cuts to advance, creating a tournament experience where placing Top 4 is going to consistently progress you through the ecosystem.
The final change is based upon feedback around sub-regional player performance at our Tactician Trials. We’ll be implementing a system where sub-regional player performance will grant sub-regions additional slots at the Tactician Trials to ensure the best players and sub-regions are rewarded for consistent performance in our events.

Global Competition
Next, we’ll get into changes to our global competition - the Tactician’s Crown (TC). We’ve received feedback around regions being underrepresented at the Tactician’s Crown. To address this, we’ve added 8 additional slots to provide more opportunities for sub-regions to qualify. This will increase the total number of competitors from 32 to 40 starting with the next Tactician’s Crown.
We also want to take a closer look at specific pan-regional representation. In pan-regions like APAC where there are many shards in addition to a very large player base, we’ve seen that it could be very difficult as a player to qualify for the TC due to the limited slots. For our largest regions (CN and APAC), we’ve added two additional slots to help alleviate this issue.
For the remaining 4 extra slots, we will be allocating them to pan-regions that have demonstrated strong performance at the previous TC:
- The top 3 overall pan-regions based on average placement (AVP) will earn an additional slot.
- The winner of the TC will qualify for the next TC as long as they play 200 games and are Masters Rank by the final ladder snapshot of that TC’s Set. This has been updated from the previous requirement for the winner to qualify for their Pan-Region’s Golden Spatula.
To account for the extra slots at the TC, the format has also been adjusted. Changes can be seen in the graphic below:
For Set 12 (Magic n’ Mayhem), the slot distribution has been determined based on the results from the Inkborn Fables Tactician’s Crown:
- APAC: 11
- One additional AVP slot
- CN: 11
- One additional AVP slot
- EMEA: 9
- One additional AVP slot
- AMER: 9
- One additional slot for winning TC
